Twin Lagoon, Coron: All You Need to Know

If you’re ever in the Philippines, on a trip through Coron. Then no doubt you will have heard tell of the Twin Lagoon. A place that ought to be on every traveler’s schedule plan. As not only will it provide a purely unforgettable experience but will also serve to blow your mind with its unique beauty and atmosphere.

What is the Twin Lagoon?

What’s there to do there, what will you see? The big question is – is it worth the trip and expenses? Well, aside from the visual marvel, the potential for a swimming spot unlike any other, and the opportunity to pay witness to the lagoon’s incredible light blue colors typically reserved for tropics and resorts, what you leave with from the Twin Lagoon is what you brought with you. That, along with a fresh perspective on not only the Philippines but perhaps on yourself.

The Twin Lagoon experience is renowned as one of the top things to do whilst in Coron. Within a region where there’s plenty to do! Available to access during an island-hopping trip. Which will also lead you to such extravagant sites as the Barracuda Lake and the Kayangan Lake, which have their own plethora of charm. Whilst the other two lakes are undoubtedly beautiful in their own right. They don’t quite measure up to the majesty and awe of the Twin Lagoon, given its esteemed circumstances.

Twin Lagoon is primarily saltwater.

Where the Twin Lagoon differs is in its water – having quite a few water inlets from the sea. The Twin Lagoon is primarily saltwater. This, along with the surrounding limestone cliffs that separate the two lagoons by only a short hill is what gives them their incredibly light color.

This alone ensures a quaint and relaxing experience for those interested in swimming along the Lagoon’s waters. There are few places like it in the world, so discover it to the depths while you can, and don’t hold back your whims for exploration!

There is one unfortunate circumstance to the trip to the Twin Lagoon, and that is its growing popularity. Whilst many more people begin to grow to appreciate the destination, the Twin Lagoon becomes busier and busier. It’s grown busier by the year, in fact. If you’re a lover of sunshine and tropical atmospheres, however, and don’t mind the occasional crowds, then you haven’t got a thing to worry about. In such a circumstance, there’s no way for the Lagoon to disappoint. One way or another, it’s definitely worth a visit if only to see the unusual circumstance of the Twin Lagoon and experience its fairytale-like wonder.

Best time to visit?

It’s probably best to visit the Lagoon in the earlier hours of the morning, around 6:30 am or 7 am, in order to get the most out of this experience. Around midday and after is when the crowds can start to become noticeable. Arrive early and you’ll find that the atmosphere is worth the reward. You may even find yourself swimming in the Lagoon’s waters entirely undeterred! Be mindful that it doesn’t take more than two or three groups to be present around the same time to make the Twin Lagoon feel somewhat crowded!

Getting to Twin Lagoon

From Coron town, you’ll find yourself reaching the Twin Lagoon after about an hour’s boat ride. An hour through which you’ll find yourself eager, twitching with anticipation on the way there, and sullenly missing the majesty but satisfied nonetheless on the way back. Given the size of the Coron islands, the island-hopping tour will no doubt leave an impression. It’s the first set of islands on the majority of travelers’ itineraries, and for good reason.

The divide between the Twin Lagoons is infamous for its two entryways – the way you cross is up to you. For the eager swimmers, there’s just that option – swimming. Unlike the Barracuda and Kayangan lakes, this one lacks a jetty and will require a swim of a hundred meters or two in order to reach the divide. If you find real passion in the act of swimming, then don’t hold back – take the road less traveled by and dive into those alluring waters. You know you’ll want to.

Not a swimmer? Not a problem either! Though they may often be busy, there’s the option of using kayaks to reach the divide, at which point you could travel up and over the steps near the top to get a glimpse of the Twin Lagoon’s full scale. It will no doubt shock you just how beautiful such a simple place can be in person. And how convenient, if you’re just not up for a swim!

Coron Town

If the Twin Lagoon is in your travel plans, then no doubt you’ll be planning to stay at Coron Town. After all, Coron Town is the essential center for tourism in the region where it’s most simple to find your way towards an island-hopping tour that will lead you where you want to be. There’s no better place to arrange the journey.

Given the recent and gradual rise in the region’s popularity among tourists. It may be a wise choice to book some accommodation in advance as the number of visitors in the city may often outweigh its ability to house them all. Luckily, there are plenty of places to stay in Coron Town, found on Busuanga Island – the second largest island in the Palawan province, after Palawan island itself. And none of these places should make too much of an impact on your budget, either.

Coron Town, a humble fishing community that earns very handsomely from its tourism, is lovely in itself and offers daily island hopping tours. Any day of the week, you’ll find a means to reach the Twin Lagoon. Of course, much of this depends on the company you decide to travel with. Fortunately, you have options!

Kayangan Lake

Island Hopping

The ‘Coron Palawan Island Hopping with Lunch | Kayangan Lake, Twin Lagoon, & More’ package, for example, includes English-speaking guides, vehicles with air-conditioning to take you on a bevy of islands – one of which does of course include the Twin Lagoon. The trip covers both the complementary use of kayaks, as well as the entrance fee to the Twin Lagoons and other destination spots. All this along with, as the package deal’s title may give away, a buffet lunch and drinking water. All this for the easy price of 1,550php (around 32$).

There are plenty of package deals of this sort, all of which can be found for either slightly lower or somewhat higher prices. Any way you decide to travel to the Twin Lagoon, you’ll find the trip stylish and comfortable, at an insanely reasonable price given all of the services that would be provided!

Hidden circular reef

What may surprise you most is the hidden circular reef that no package tour deal will ever tell you about. Simply because few people really talk or know about it. Taking a climb and looking down at the Twin Lagoon from above is the easiest way to spot this incredible phenomenon. Coron’s very own blue hole, just beside the reef, like a surprise extra to the already perceptible splendor. You may not be able to see the reef from up close, but you won’t have to after the view you get from above.

The way we capture our experiences in memory and longing is typically through photographs. What better way to end a tour through one of the most beautiful and breathtaking places in the world than by sealing it all with a photograph or two that guarantees the experience once and for all? That lets you look back at what you’ve come to miss?

Wonderful photography spots

Twin Lagoon happens to have an abundance of wonderful photography spots. But you’ll have to be careful transporting your electronics – for this, I would definitely recommend the use of a kayak. And thus would also advise looking out for a company island hopping tour that promises to provide one. Whether it be in the smaller or bigger end of the two phenomenal lagoons, you’ll find your way – in the Southern Lagoon, you’ll find an especially lovely spot. A rock that only just juts up and out of the water, giving off the feeling of isolation, is one of the more popular photography spots. A good place to take photos from, or have a family member/friend stand atop it for their own interesting photo! The choice is all yours. Be creative, find a spot that others wouldn’t think about! It’ll certainly make for an interesting story.
Alongside the crystalline waters of magnificent color. With the intricately carved limestone walls that surround and expand in gorgeous ways and the likely cloudless skies above. You’ll find yourself the subject of a photo taken in the center of unexaggerated paradise.
